We had been talked about getting a Shiba Inu for years. We were intrigued by the breed and the personality, liked the size and think they are the cutest. About a month after our beloved lab died, we decided to look around because we thought our other dog Rosie was sad and lonely. We found a Shiba Inu puppy that day that people were having trouble selling, and we got him!
We don't know a lot about where Nikko came from, but he smelled really bad and had a big cut on his neck. We got him cleaned up and introduced him to Rosie and the chickens. He was so excited to see Rosie!
Nikko came with the name Zipper. Kinda cute, but we wanted a Japanese name since this is a Japanese breed and we have family members that are Japanese. We landed on the name Nikko by looking at names of cities on a map of Japan - Nikko, Japan looks beautiful and is definitely on our travel bucket list!
Curious, clever, and suspicious, especially when meeting new people.
People stop us all the time to tell us he looks like a fox.
His little (half) brother Kuma, getting neck scratches from his papa, hanging out on the steps, long walks, snow, lazy summer days, coffee and getting lots of attention.
Nikko just finished urban and wilderness tracking classes, and is looking forward to a little break from school.
Can't believe he was this little!
Nikko is extremely suspicious of anything new.
He literally bounces through the snow.
This is why Nikko needed a puppy... we did not have the energy for his playtime.
